The household as a spiritual university.

Grisht Ashram Mahan Ashram, Devee Dev Poojde. The household is the highest ashram. The angels and the divine worship it.

So spoke Guru Nanak, initiator of Sikh Dharma, in the 15th century.

In the middle of our lives we are IN THE HOUSEHOLD. Whatever household that may be. Working, raising children or not. Family life. The middle part of life.

Traditionally, in the yogic vedas, this quarter of life, the second ashram of life, was seen not as a time to have a spiritual practice and to seek communion with Self and the divine. It was a time of duty and responsibility.

But Kundalini Yoga is different. It is specifically a householder’s yoga. That means, we are living our busy lives, we are in the midst of all the complexity, and the opportunity is to find the soul, the spiritual richness, the growth and the learning, WITHIN it. And that’s why the practices we have are fast and effective, because we don’t have a lot of time. And that’s why the teachings are full of wisdom for living this life. It’s so rich.

Very many moments in my own life as a woman, a householder, a mother, I have wished to escape into an actual ashram. A lovely yoga retreat. Blissfully removed from all the triggers. Wonderfully enlightened.

And yet, hmm.. come down from the mountain and the issues are all still waiting!

Grisht Ashram school’s central aim is to support YOU in the midst of YOUR life. It is based on the understanding that everything in your life, but everything, is exactly what you need to experience., to become the you that only you can be. It’s the exact curriculum your soul needs in this lifetime to teach you who you really are to become it. Which is why your soul chose the mother it did, with ALL that she is. And why you have the family you have. The children you have.

All is, in the words of the teacher Ram Dass, grist for the mill of awakening.

So let us support and guide you, let the practices work for you and let the teachings enlighten you on your way.

To cross over simply and beautifully and to live out your innate birthright: happiness.
