JAI RAM KAUR
Sat Naam.
Welcome. I am the founder and director at Grisht Ashram.
My first meeting of Kundalini Yoga was in 2001 in France at the European Yoga Festival. Newly pregnant, newly moved to Germany for love, I was knocked over by a feeling of having arrived at an important destination in my life.
At the same festival I met my teacher, Shiv Charan Singh, and the rest, as they say, is history. But still, I can tell a little more of the story!
After the birth of my first baby, I began the Karam Kriya applied numerology consultancy training with Shiv Charan, organised by my husband Beant. Over the next 3 years I completed the training, while simultaneously having 2 more children.
It was in fact through being pregnant, giving birth and becoming a mother that I really experienced the riches that Kundalini Yoga has to offer. Not just the practices, which were brilliant, but the philosophy and lifestyle teachings provided me with a perspective and practical ways of living that were aligned with what I craved - a soul-friendly and nourishing way to live and be a mother.
Fast forward to 2006 and I found myself teaching pregnancy, postnatal and women’s classes. I was called. I answered the call. And have been doing so ever since.
I did my Level 1 training in Berlin in 2009 and then moved back to Perth with my family. I continued to teach, founding Small Blessings Yoga for conscious motherhood in 2010 and continuing with Karam Kriya and general Kundalini Yoga classes.
2017 I began training to be a trainer. This journey gave me the honour and privilege of guiding others through this transformational, profound and not always easy journey of becoming a teacher. I am ever grateful and humbled by that role.
Now, to the world, I am a Level 2 trainer, a Level 1 Lead practicum trainer and a Karam Kriya consultant and trainer.
To my family I am wife and mum. I spend alot of time in the garden. I walk in the bush with the dog. I’m told I spend too much time on the computer. My kids are now all grown up and I get to watch them blossom into adulthood - another privilege.
I am here to serve you on your journey of becoming. The vision of Grisht Ashram has been with me for many years. In the centre of a courtyard with doors on all 4 sides is a fountain. That fountain bubbles and flows infinitely. It is the source of all life. It is the flow of spirit. Endlessly nourishing. All the birds and animals, children and adults come there to drink and have their deepest thirst quenched. The teachings point us back to this source, time and again. You see the outer fountain to ultimately recognise, it is within YOU, inside your very own ribcage. Pouring love to you from inside of you.
We live in a rather barren spiritual landscape in the West. A desert. When I said to my teacher on our first meeting that I wanted to serve in undeveloped countries, there where there is poverty, he said maybe your mission is to serve in the west where there is spiritual poverty. That’s what needs attention.
These words move me to this day. Through its offerings, may Grisht Ashram, school for the householder, you and me, be an oasis of spiritual nourishment for all who come.
